Funny Example

Apropos to my last post about volatility and hockey, my Father (whom I work with) is involved in a number of outside activities where he provides his time and service without pay and just out of the good of his heart because he's a man who has always believed it is better to give than receive.  One of the things he does is chair the homeowners board of directors in the neighborhood he and my mother live in.  It's a lot of work and takes up a fair amount of his time as the neighborhood is big and the residents can be somewhat "high maintenance" from time to time (for those of you who know what neighborhood I'm talking about will enjoy that).  He told me this morning that he recently received an email from a resident who was complaining that the neighborhood grass hadn't been cut in two weeks...his response to the email was simple and was something like this:

"you do realize we had more rain last month (May) than we've had in a long time and you can't cut grass when it rains and the grass is wet"....

Seems to make sense right?  Well my point in writing that is yes if you saw your account decrease in value last month, there were reasons why and while those reasons don't always make sense, they nonetheless happened.  I hate that Europe can't get their act together, but at some point things will get better over their and they won't be a thorn in our side.  So that being said, if things are "sunnier" this month, then the grass can be cut and things will look pretty again.

Unfortunately it's raining today in Columbia SC, but I still stick by my analogy because I too have not been able to cut my grass over the past 3 weeks, but as soon as the weather turns and it gets sunny, I will be out there with my lawnmover making my yard look good again...
